Sport Management Degrees Offered at Weber State University

The Moyes College of Education offers a Bachelor of Science in Exercise and Sport Science and Sport Coaching Education minor.

The Bachelor of Science in Exercise and Sport Science provides students with the skills necessary to assist others in maintaining and boosting their fitness and well-being. Students have the ability to become a certified wellness coach following the program. A total of 120 credits are needed to complete the degree. The core courses include Exploring Exercise Science Professions, Emergency Response, Structural Kinesiology, Health/Fitness Evaluation and Exercise Prescription, Biomechanics, Exercise Physiology, Measurement and Statistics in Exercise Science, Clinical Exercise Physiology, and Senior Seminar. The program offers two tracks: exercise science and fitness professional. The exercise science track teaches students about anatomy, physiology, kinesiology, and biomechanics and how they apply to fitness. Students learn about the science aspects of exercise and metabolism. The exercise science track courses include Food Values, Diet Design and Health, Sports Nutrition, Nutrition and Fitness, Methods of Teaching Strength and Conditioning, and Sport Psychology for Coaches.

The fitness professional track teaches students about anatomy, physiology, nutrition, and fitness assessment and how to incorporate successful exercise and fitness programs. Students also gain skills in weightlifting and aerobics. The fitness professional track courses include Foundations of Health Promotion, Nutrition and Fitness, Methods of Teaching Strength and Conditioning, Cooperative Work Experience, and Customer Service Techniques.

The Sport Coaching Education minor provides students with an overview of teaching a variety of sports. A minimum of 19 credits is needed to finish the minor. The courses include First Aid: Responding to Emergencies, Introduction to Sports Medicine, Introduction to Coaching Sport, Sport Pedagogy, Sociohistorical Aspects of Sport, Methods of Teaching Strength and Conditioning, Sport Psychology for Coaches, and Field Experience Coaching.

The Dumke College of Health Professions offers a Master of Science in Athletic Training. The program teaches students skills in prevention, assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation of musculoskeletal injuries and general medical conditions. A minimum of 58 credits is needed to complete the program. The courses include Introduction to Graduate Athletic Training, Ortho Assessment-Lower Extremities, Ortho Assessment-Upper Extremities, Orthopedic Taping, Casting and Bracing, Basic Modalities, Advanced Modalities, Sport Psychology, Advanced Diagnostic Imaging, Research Methods, and Graduate Practicum. Students who complete the program are qualified to become certified athletic trainers.

The Federal Work-Study Program provides federal funding to undergraduate and graduate students who show a significant financial need. Students are able to work part-time, up to 20 hours a week. Students must be enrolled at least half-time and the program promotes jobs that are related to the course of study or those that benefit the community. The pay varies but students make at least the current federal minimum wage.
