Schreiner University was first founded in 1923 by Captain Charles Schreiner, a retired Texas Ranger who owned a prominent Hill Country ranch. Scores of young men enrolled for military training and junior college degrees until Schreiner became co-educational in 1971. One decade later, Schreiner was shaped into a four-year, baccalaureate institution with regional accreditation. Affiliated with the Presbyterian Church, Schreiner stands as a private, nonprofit Christian liberal arts college with the Greystone Preparatory School. Endowed for $52.4 million, Schreiner University caters to around 1,300 Mountaineers in 30+ academic programs. Schreiner occupies a 170-acre rural campus in Kerrville, Texas, along the Guadalupe River.

According to the U.S. News, high school counselors rank Schreiner University as the 154th best national liberal arts college with a 69 percent retention rate. Students with less than one full-time college semester must fulfill the above freshmen criteria. Incoming transfers are automatically accepted with a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher. Transfer articulation agreements exist specifically with Alamo Community Colleges in San Antonio, but any non-remedial course graded “C” or better could transfer.
