Warner University

Warner University is a small and private university in Florida. The Southeastern Association of the Church of God decided to open a new private college in the 1960s. Despite the organization having its headquarters in Indiana, it settled on Lake Wales for that new campus. It opened with just a small number of students and an even smaller number of buildings. The campus now covers around 360 acres and has a convenient location that is almost halfway between the major cities of Orlando and Tampa. Though many of its students come from Florida, it has a small number of international students and those from across the country. Its location helps students find jobs in those big cities and opportunities like field placements and internships.

U.S. News & World Report releases a list of the top colleges in the country every year called America’s Best Colleges. It named Warner University to that list for four years in a row. Enrollment grew slowly over the years and reached more than 1,200 students in recent years. Most of its classes range in size from 10 to 20 students, and it has a ratio of one teacher for every 16 students. Warner University has its own code of conduct that all students must agree to follow while on campus and in their personal lives.

Warner University Accreditation Details

Though Warner University lacks some of the specialty accreditation that other colleges have, it does have regional accreditation, which is one of the more important types. Not only does this mean that the degree you earn is valuable in the real world, but it also means that you can apply for financial aid. Its regional accreditation comes from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS). SACS accreditation is only valid for 10 years at a time. The university must then renew its accreditation and pass all the same checks that it did the first time. Warner University maintained its regional SACS accreditation every time since first receiving its accreditation.

Warner University Application Requirements

Warner University offers several applications based on your age, the school you want to attend and other factors. There is a separate application for incoming freshmen, an application for adult students and a third application for its graduate school. Using the online application is the best way to apply because it only take 30 to 60 minutes. It starts out with simple questions about your student status, when you want to start classes and whether you filed the FAFSA.

The application includes a personal section that asks for your name, address, phone number, date of birth, social security number and marital status. You can also include information about your religious denomination and church. A third section asks about your citizenship status, and you’ll find another section dedicated to race and ethnicity that is voluntary. You must also tell the university more about your parents, including their names, addresses and levels of education. After listing your academic information, you must add an electronic signature to your application.

As Warner University is a religious university, its application includes a section on faith and community. You need to check a box that says you agree with its lifestyle requirements. You’ll also need to answer questions about whether you have any arrests or felony convictions on your record and if you had any expulsions or disciplinary actions against you in high school. The university offers a paper version of its application that you can print off and mail back too. You must mail a transcript to the university, and it may ask for your standardized test score too. If the university needs any additional documents, it will contact you over email or by standard mail.

Tuition and Financial Aid

Warner University follows a semester hour schedule instead of using credit hours. Students can take up to 18 semester hours of work for right around $10,000 a semester. You’ll pay the same amount for any semester where you take at least 12 hours but not more than 18 hours of classes. Depending on the number of classes you take, you may pay as little as $394 per semester hour. To live on-campus, you must pay $2,100 for housing and at least $1,600 for a meal plan. The university also charges fees of $200 each semester.

Make sure that you file the FAFSA and that you notify the university once you file it. Students who lived in Florida for a period of 12 months or longer may qualify for a state grant, and you can apply for this grant via the university’s website. Nonresidents qualify for other types of grants and federal loans too. Your parents may qualify for a federal loan that covers some of your extra expenses. Warner University recommends that those with additional financial needs contact its financial aid office to get help finding and applying for public and private scholarships.

Student Experience

Warner University has one of the top Exercise & Sport Studies departments in the state. Through that department, it offers a degree in sports management. The program includes a core of 14 credits of exercise and sports studies classes. Taking a class worth one credit of CPR lets you get your CPR certification, which can help you save lives in the future and qualify for coaching and teaching jobs. The core also includes classes on physical education, intramural activities and exercise physiology. The last core class goes over the prevention and treatment of certain sports injuries.

Sports management majors must take at least 51 credits of classes relating to that subject. A class on sport journalism goes over the basics of reporting on sports, and a class on financial accounting teaches you the basics of accounting and managing your finances. You’ll also take classes on microeconomics, public relations, marketing, business laws and sport psychology. Though Warner University does require that you do at least one internship, it can help you find one doing work for the university, an amateur league or even a professional organization. Students receive up to six credits for their internships. Warner University offers similar majors within this department that can prepare students for working as coaches in high schools, athletic directors in major colleges and as physical education teachers.
