Since 1997, the College of Business has offered a Sports Management Bachelor of Science among its 10 IACBE-accredited majors for Wilmington University undergrads enthusiastic about leading amateur or professional franchises. Directed by Dr. Lynda Fuller, the 72-120 credit, customized program maintains a 13:1 student-professor ratio for New Castle or online courses like Sport Media Relations, Organizational Behavior, and Accounting before the ETS Major Field Test. Specialization is possible with the Nonprofit Management Concentration or Sports Analytics Certificate. Online or at six Delaware locations like Wilson Graduate Center, learning can continue for the Master of Science in Management: Sport Management Concentration. The 36-credit, non-thesis degree headed by Dr. Sheryl Scanlon integrates independent study projects in courses from Event Marketing to Sports Law Compliance.
Joining Wilmington University’s Sport Management B.S. team will involve cooperative education with two 150-hour field blocks for around 10 hours weekly. Possible placements include the Delaware Black Foxes, Wilmington Blue Rocks, Temple Owls, Philadelphia 76ers, Baltimore Orioles, New Jersey Devils, Dover International Speedway, Eagle Point Golf Club, and Bob Carpenter Center. Founded in 2007, the Delaware Sports League has over 7,500 members organizing tournaments from kickball to flag football. On campus, WilmU students work with 15 varsity teams competing in the NCAA Division II Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference. Wildcats access Jim Sherman Sr. Stadium, Mid County Lanes, Carousel Park, Ashbury Field, and others. Wilmington University Accreditation Details
In 2015, Wilmington University successfully underwent an in-depth assurance review by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE) to retain the highest Level VI accreditation for 10 additional years under its fourth president, Dr. LaVerne Harmon. Located just 45 minutes away in Philadelphia, this seven-state Mid-Atlantic accrediting body is authorized by the U.S. Department of Education to investigate the academic quality of WilmU’s three associate, 43 baccalaureate, 60 master’s, and nine doctoral options from Brandywine to West Windsor Township or online. The International Accreditation Council for Business Education (IACBE) has also accredited the College of Business since 2005.
Wilmington University Application Requirements
Vying for spots at Wilmington University is labeled “non-competitive” by Peterson’s since 99 percent of the 3,299 Fall 2016 applications were okayed. First-year Wildcats roaring at the Sport Management B.S. opportunity must complete an accredited secondary school or the GED. Homeschooled students are required to take the Accuplacer. Scoring at least 530 on the SAT Math and 480 on the SAT English sections would waive this test. Freshmen are held to a minimum 1.6 GPA. Undergrads can transfer 15-90 credits from CHEA-recognized, degree-granting colleges with grades above “C-.” The Master of Science in Management requires confirming a four-year bachelor’s with a cumulative GPA higher than 2.75. Speakers of other languages need 12+ English credits or TOEFL section scores all over 19.
Applying to Wilmington University is easy because the deadlines keep rolling year-round. Wilmington University Tuition and Financial Aid
For 2018-19, Wilmington University will charge Sport Management B.S. majors in New Castle $372 per credit or $5,580 each term full-time. The NIAAA-approved online courses also bill $372 per credit. Active-duty military personnel receive a discount to $250 per credit. Non-U.S. residents pay slightly more at $409 per credit. Textbooks add roughly $1,800 yearly. Annual bachelor’s attendance equals $14,540 on average. For the MSM Sport Management Concentration, post-grads generally pay $477 per credit. Active-duty military personnel discount costs to $300 per credit, including at Dover Air Force Base. International graduate tuition is $525 per credit.
According to the NCES College Navigator, only 40 percent of full-time WilmU Wildcats pounce on mean financial aid offers of $2,552 for $8.94 million total. University funds include the Donavon Appleman Memorial Scholarship, Joann H. Gilbert Memorial Scholarship, Betty & Ralph Bailey Merit Scholarship, Green and White Scholarship, Montgomery County Community College Alumni Scholarship, Linda Thomas Scholarship, and Wilmington Manor Lions Club Scholarship. Enrolling at least half-time in the Sport Management B.S. qualifies for Federal Pell, Year-Round Pell, and SEOG Grant money with FAFSA code 007948.
