Rogers State UniversitySince August 2007, the School of Professional Studies at Rogers State University has awarded the Bachelor of Science in Sport Management for non-athletes interested in the $375 billion industry’s administrative careers. Chaired by Dr. Cathy Kennemer in Herrington Hall, the 126-credit degree develops the competitive business skills to oversee victorious amateur or pro franchises. With a 19:1 student-faculty ratio, the curriculum allows personalization with the Sport Business or Fitness Management specializations. Expect in-person core courses in Event Planning, Athletic Ethics, Sports Law, E-Marketing, and Physiology of Exercise. Credits could transfer from Roger State’s Business Administration AA degree. Senior internships are included at settings like the Oklahoma City Thunder, Tulsa Golden Hurricanes, Oklahoma City Dodgers, Dallas Wings, Bricktown Brawlers, and Muskogee Oilers.

Sport Management BS majors are actively involved in Rogers State’s NCAA Division II athletics department with 12 varsity teams of the Heartland Conference. In 2009, the men’s basketball team coached by Lloyd Williams snagged the school’s first #1 ranking. Seven Capital One Academic All-Americans have donned RSU jerseys too. The Hillcats maintain state-of-the-art facilities, including Diamond Sports Complex, Claremore Expo Center, Bushyhead Fieldhouse, and Soldier Field. Undergrads can join 30+ campus organizations, such as the Bass Fishing Team, Oklahoma Intercollegiate Legislature, Phi Beta Lambda, Campus Activities Team, Ultimate Frisbee Club, and Christians in Action. Other opportunities are broadcasting sports on KRSC 91.3FM, attending the President’s Leadership Class, studying abroad in Wales, continuing for the MBA, and networking with the Executive-in-Residence.

Rogers State University was opened in 1909, two years after Oklahoma Territory’s Union admittance, as the Eastern University Preparatory School by A.L. Kates. Initially enrolling 375 Osage Indians and farmers, the academy claimed 40 acres atop College Hill in Greater Tulsa’s Ozarks. Endowed for $6.7 million, it was renamed in 1982 for Clement Vann Rogers and merged with the University Center at Tulsa in 1996. Rogers State University Accreditation Details

In June 2009, Rogers State University had its Level IV accreditation from the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association (HLC-NCA) renewed for 10 more years under Chairman Richard R. Dunning. Based in Chicago, the regional authority is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education to determine Federal Title-IV eligibility for Rogers’ 13 associate, 19 baccalaureate, and one master’s majors from Bartlesville to Pryor. The public branch is overseen by the University of Oklahoma Board of Regents. The School of Professional Studies also holds Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP) approval.

Rogers State University Application Requirements

Starting the Bachelor of Science in Sport Management involves passing Rogers State University’s “selective” criteria with a 79 percent admission rate. First-year Hillcats need to finish high school diplomas with an OSRHE 15-unit curriculum or its equivalent. Passing the GED test with a 580 or higher is also acceptable. Undergrads must provide a minimum ACT score of 20 or SAT score of 940 excluding writing. Transferring for the Sport Management B.S. necessitates 24+ non-remedial credits at accredited schools with 2.0 GPAs or greater. In-state transfers from schools like Northern Oklahoma College, Rose State College, and Tulsa Community College could be automatic. Non-native English speakers must complete a 12-week IEP or score 500+ on the written TOEFL.
